Setup

Set up two teams with neutral support players on the outside. Teams score by playing into an end zone or finishing in mini goals after a regain. Restart quickly from the coach to keep intensity high.

Practice Description

The game rewards quick reactions. If a team loses the ball and regains it within five seconds, their next goal counts double. If they fail to counter-press, the opposition can attack the mini goals immediately.

Coaching Points

  • Keep rest defence connected under the ball
  • Press the first pass after losing possession
  • Protect the centre before chasing wide
  • Use the first regain pass to escape pressure
  • Recognise when to secure possession and when to attack

Progressions

  • Reduce the playing area
  • Limit teams to three passes before attacking
  • Add bonus points for a regain-to-shot sequence

Regressions

  • Increase the playing area
  • Add an extra neutral player
  • Remove double scoring until the counter-pressing cue is clear

Player Questions

  • Who presses first when we lose it?
  • Who protects the central space?
  • What is the safest first pass after we regain?

Technology Insight: What Could Be Measured

Track pressure actions, counter-press regains, accelerations, decelerations, central protection, and shot creation after regains.

TCC Interpretation: Why This Session Works

This session works because the scoreline teaches the behaviour. Players quickly learn that the few seconds after losing or regaining the ball decide whether the attack continues or collapses.
