Setup
Split the pitch into three zones. The attacking team must connect through midfield before entering the final-action zone. Defenders can counter into mini goals if they win possession.
Practice Description
The attacking team circulates possession until they find a forward-facing player. Once the entry is made, runners must support at different heights and create a shot or cutback quickly. If possession is lost, the nearest three players press while the rest protect the middle.
Coaching Points
- Move the ball to move the opponent
- Receive forward-facing where possible
- Support the final action at different heights
- Protect against the counter before committing too many players
- Attack quickly once the line is broken
Progressions
- Limit midfield players to two touches
- Add a time limit after final-third entry
- Reward goals after cutbacks or third-player runs
Regressions
- Allow an overload in midfield
- Use passive pressure in the final zone
- Remove the counter goals temporarily
Player Questions
- How do we know when possession has become penetration?
- Who supports underneath the final action?
- Where is the counter threat if we lose it?
Technology Insight: What Could Be Measured
Track possession length, line-breaking passes, final-third entries, cutbacks, support distances, and counter-press response after the final action.
TCC Interpretation: Why This Session Works
This session works because it connects the Brazilian idea of expressive attacking with the structure required to keep the team secure. Freedom is encouraged, but the rest defence still matters.
